Well Allan, the Hadza are a clear counterpoint to your suggestion that h/g tribes were either more labor intensive or more food-precarious than we are. They die younger (but mostly because of untreated dental issues than, say, diabetes and cancer). Similarly, the pre-contact people of California — 100 tribes living in total harmony with their environment (and surprising harmony with one another) for 13,000 years.
