After putting this piece up, it’s clear I need to present the information differently. It sounds arduous; it’s actually quite the opposite. If I wrote down any of our daily schedules, including the laws we follow, it would look painfully restrictive.
The challenge with imagining the post-work future is that you NEED a structure. If everyone is left to her own devices, your only option is perfect self-sufficiency. If you’re trying to live in a community, you need an agreement for how everyone acts. We need to eat, we need to help each other, we need be active and creative, and we need to give thanks. This document is a rough draft for one idea of how to come to that conclusion BEFORE the experiment starts so that the participants actually agree on what they’re doing. Otherwise the most forceful person in the room — or the park — will begin to dictate.
